The cake

For Mike's birthday, he wanted nothing. No presents, no party, no attention. Well I didn't listen to everything. We gave him some new flip flops (woo-woo) and posted a picture and little note on this blog, but I respected his wishes for no party (this year). But I wasn't about to sit around and let the day go to waste, so I made him a cake. It so happened that my Gastronomy Group was having a cake decorating demonstration, by sweet, talented, self-taught Summer, that very night so it was a perfect excuse to celebrate with chocolate. This is the result. Mike was very happy.

I told him he had to wait until Friday (the next day) to eat it, since that is when we were making dinner and had a minute to celebrate when Chloe was awake. But he played the "but it's my birthday and you can't boss me
around" card, and won. So this is what the cake looked like when we got the candles on it the next day. (we used the "1" candle from Chloe's first birthday because she has to visit the "happy candles" every time we see them in the grocery store. Such a memory that girl has!)

What a nicely done cake, and soooooo chocolaty! I wish I would have been able to attend Summer's teaching, too! (And happy birthday to the man of the house!)
