Ouch!

(I wrote this post on Friday but I'm not posting it until Tuesday, because the camera was having issues downloading. Problem solved, so here we go.)

Does this look like a toddler that just fell down a full flight of hardwood stairs? I get "Mother of the Year" award for this one. I ran downstairs just to put some papers in the kitchen when I heard it. With every thud, bump, bang, and crash I knew what was happening. It is what I thought would never happen to us. Chloe is so good about going down the stairs by herself. She knows how to get down on her all fours and scoot backwards until she feels the change in horizon. I'm not sure what happened this time but I suspect the fact that she has no grip on her tights had something to do with it. The amazing thing is, she is just fine. (With one tiny exception, a hole in her bottom lip.) She cried for a few minutes but calmed down pretty quickly. Mike had some freaky intuition to call me about 30 seconds after it happened, which was helpful. (The second picture is not very flattering but it shows her fat lip.)

When I first picked her up I noticed blood right below her bottom lip and from that, I'm pretty sure one of her super sharp baby teeth punched a hole in her lip. It didn't bleed very much at all, but there is an entry and exit wound (sorry to be so graphic), so one must assume that it happened. It didn't bleed, so there was no need to get any stitches. The good thing is, if it scars, it will be hidden. She got me back tonight by putting her fingers in each of my eyes on separate occasions. Yup, she poked my eyes out. That really hurts! But we are all no worse for the wear. So now it is on to enjoy a quite evening...

Update: She continued this falling pattern by falling off our bed on Monday. And yes we have hardwood floors in there also. I can't believe what a trooper she is and what I horrible parent I have been. There was about 2 minutes of crying and then she was easily distracted. Phew!

Well, considering each of my kids have fallen off of the bed AND down the stairs I think that Chloe (and you) will survive! She is so cute to show her injury though. Did I mention I also fell while at the gym when Anna was one and I was holding her---that would be the broken ankle incident--the one where I dropped my baby in an attempt to catch us. Oops. My pride was more wounded than either of us. Oh well, part of life! Scars give you character and great stories!

Ouch! Don't little kids have amazing resiliency? Jack always has a big bruise on his forehead. The kid is pretty good about taking falls though - he usually gets right back up and keeps going.
