Let's see where to start? Our big Holiday weekend started with a miracle. Mike came around and agreed with me that we need to redo our kitchen in order to one day sell our house. Especially with the market turning like it is. I have had an IKEA design for months now and I was just waiting for someone to be on board with me. So Saturday afternoon we went to pick up the first four cabinets. We are doing things in stages to avoid living completely without a working kitchen. For now the microwave is in the dinning room and the silverware drawer is floating between the kitchen table and on top of the stove, we are doing that one in a different stage. Other things are in boxes all around the dinning room. While it is livable, I can't wait until it is all done.
Saturday we tore out the old cabinets on one side of the tiny kitchen, picked up the new cabinets plus one for above the fridge, and I had a girls night out while Mike put the cabinets together. He is such a good husband! Sunday we took it easy after church and everyone got the all important afternoon Sunday-nap. Then Monday, the reason we choose this weekend. Mike had the day off so we got busy right away, well he did and I tried to entertain Chloe where there were no sharp saws, screw drivers, or other daddy tools. The hardest part about this was to redirect a heating vent. It took up a good portion of our old cabinet so Mike redirected it under the new cabinets so we didn't loose any storage space. Brilliant! Mike took a break when some friends came over for lunch and then it was back to business.
We hung the first cabinet over the fridge. It is HUGE and I couldn't reach the top back corner to screw it to the rail so I had to hold the cabinet on my head while Mike did the attaching. It is a glorious cabinet. I say that because I have wanted some storage over the fridge since we moved in over 3 1/2 years ago. The one thing that is missing is a shelf. Which means a return trip to IKEA, I knew that was coming. Next we hung the three other cabinets. The are still a work in progress because it has taken so much time to figure things out. But it aways takes twice the time and money to complete any project. We are hoping to stay within budget on this one and I'm very confident we will, Mike is a good enforcer.
Anyway we are on to replacing the gross linoleum on the floor next. YEA!!!! Our previous owner was less than meticulous about his home improvements and when they installed the linoleum they tore it twice, but continued on with the installation. I will keep posting the progress so those of you far away can see the transformation. Those of you close by feel free to come see the progress yourself if interested, you know where we are. And those of you far away who want to come visit, we welcome you!
