Just for fun I thought I would show you the whole kitchen redo from beginning to end.
I am so happy we did it! So enjoy the picture story...
This is where the story begins in June 2004.
We knew from the pictures it would need some work but we didn't expect it to be a kitchen of homemade cabinets, tacky wallpaper, and damaged flooring.
That's what you get for buying your home from across the country in a seller's market.
Mike had the brilliant idea to paint the cabinets black.
I was reluctant at first but it was the best thing we did.
That and remove the wallpaper.

Then I convinced him to replace the counter tops. Oh happy day!Love Ikea for inexpensive fixes the I can live with.

Then the miracle happened, Mike consented to replacing the cabinets. On the note that it is the only way we will get anything out of this place on resale.
We had a bit of a mess every time we did a new installment. This whole redo took 6 months, but it's not as bad as it sounds.
This is where our microwave lived for 6 months.
It's still hard to not walk into the dinning room to heat anything up.
Love our new microwave (pictured below).

The next cabinet installment.
If only it was as easy as the pictures look. I have to say the biggest thank you to my sweet Mike. He is amazing in what he can do and figure out, as this was a build your own kitchen type (IKEA). Also thank you to my sweet parents who spent their relaxing time here in Maryland putting up a back splash (the one thing Mike was dreading and didn't have to do!).I LOVE OUR KITCHEN!

You did good on the backsplash... I like it all the way up. Like the stripe too.
Well done Mike! It looks so great. Can you come to our house for a while, do you think? We need a little work!
LOVE IT JOD!!!
It does look just a tiny bit better than the original.

Nice work you two. Doug and I would never attempt something like that it looks great!
It really does look great! It's fun to see the before and after pictures—I'm always so anxious to see the after that I forget to take pics of the before.
It looks gorgeous!
The backsplash is amazing! I love the black row...oh, so cute. I'm going to have to insist that James do the black row in our upstairs bathroom. I can't wait to see it in person, but the photos are wonderful! Hooray, Mike and Jodi and Mama/Papa Nichol!
