Ryan at One

Things I want to remember about you right now are:
  • You love spoons, shovels, rakes, and all those types of tools. We can get you to stop crying if we give you a shovel to play with. Well, sometimes it works. But if you have two spoons in your hands it makes changing your diaper doable. Otherwise it is a fight! You get that from your Dad, Grandma told me.
  • You can walk, but you won't. Slowly you are gaining the confidence to take a few steps. The most you have taken alone...6. You walk holding one of our fingers and you do it well. You will cruise down the hallway holding on to the wall and you go pretty fast. Just think if you didn't hold on how fast you could go. One day soon you will figure it out. (I can't wait!!)
  • You throw tantrums already. Really? It would be easy to ignore if you didn't throw your head back and nearly give yourself a concussion every time. I guess you are stubborn. Wonder where you got that from? Hhmm.
  • You LOVE your binkie and your blanket. Lately you go to bed with 2-3 binkies. If you have more than one outside of your bed you are constantly rotating them in and out of your mouth. If you see your blanket in the same room you get so excited.
  • You LOVE your Daddy. Again, he is the preferred parent as of late. You always put your arms out to him if I am holding you and he is within proximity. He's just a fun Daddy! But...
  • You are a Mama's boy too. When any stranger (someone who doesn't live in our house) talks to you you cuddle into me and I love it. I hope for your sake this stranger awareness is a phase and you are more out going, but for now I will enjoy the loves and hugs. You do this for Dad too.
  • You are our climber.
  • You are a pointer. You will not do any sign language but you will point. I take that back, you will do "all done" if you know it will get you out of your high chair.
  • You LOVE drawers and doors. I am so tired of doing a dishwasher full of my cooking utensils because you have yet again dropped them all over the floor. They, along with the kids spoons and sippy cup lids, are all in bins on the counters. I think we are going to look into kiddie locks for the drawers. It will make for fewer loads in the dishwasher. As for doors, you will sit in Dad's office and open and shut the door for 10 minutes. So easy to entertain that way. You are always shutting me out of your bedroom. That isn't supposed to happen for 14 more years.

So cute! I can't believe he's one already! This is a sweet post because you forget all this stuff as time goes by. That's something I've learned with my kids that I need to do with this next one, document a little more. Hope you're doing well!

That picture is awesome. Seriously. Happy Birthday to Ryan! How fun! I love to hear the little things, too! Henry totally throws his head back when mad. What is it with boys? My girls never did that! Fun to read about such a cute little guy! Miss you!
