HELP! Everyone out there help!

I'm doing this as fast as I can before Mike gets home from work, he might not be in favor so I need some cyber-support. I need advice on a kitchen back splash. I want to do a back splash in our kitchen that stands out a little bit and for a small amount of money. Who doesn't? With the potential if selling in the future, I'm looking at this as a selling feature as well as a necessity.

Well I found these tiles today at Lowe's and bought a few to put on the wall, just to see. So please everyone out there family, friends, blog stalkers, designers, and all...what do you think of these? (leave your comments below in the comment section) Am I silly to think we could do just two rows of subway tile and it would look ok? Does it need to go all the way up? That is where I think Mike will disagree since we would need to rent a tile saw and it gets more complicated.

First is the plain white. Too much white in our white kitchen?

Here it is close up.

How about with a cool (expensive) metallic bull nose finish? (my vote is with this one)

Here is a close up of the metallic (excuse my tape holding the tile to the walls)

What my little helper was doing right next to me while I was taking these pictures.
What can I say, she loves the recycling! My green baby!

So what do you think? Please help me!! Give me your opinions. Help me make a decision.
Thanks
Mike just walked in...gotta go!

I love the subway tiles, and I don't think you need to go all the way up, although that would look good too. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Jodi, I am having this very same conflict myself! I like the subway, but it is really white. It's hard to tell what the metallic really look like in the pic, does it have stripes or is it just the effect of the flash? Maybe 2 rows of white and a few rows of the 1" mosaic tiles (you won't need a tile saw for these either) and then the white cap around the edges? I don't know. I haven't figured out what I'm doing either.

I like the white, I think it looks fine with just the 2 rows. It is a lot of white, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Maybe the metallic just doesn't take a great picture, but I think 3 rows of the subway with it would look better. It just isn't substantial enough with the 2. Good luck (mostly with convincing Mike to do it.)

We're doing subway tile, too! So fun.

So I'm having a hard time getting the gist of the metallic one, too - do you mean to put a row of that on top of the subway?

I Google-imaged subway tile backsplashes, and it looks like most of them show the backsplash going all the way up to the cabinet. However, these are all professional photos of huge houses that can afford to have OTHER people put in a 6-foot-tall (not really) backsplash.

I agree with Keersten, another row would probably suffice. Maybe even 4. I think James plans to intersperse the subway tile with same-width but not-as-high tiles for a little variety...or maybe that's how he's finishing off the top? I dunno. But I think 2 might not be enough...and besides, water and food splashes higher than two subway tiles, so might as well keep going up! :) Good luck!
